Rex phrases

Rex cracks me up every day! Here are some things he says a lot lately. "I'm all warm and cozy!" "Hold this for 2 minutes." When we are at a restaurant he walks up to the counter and says, "Can I have ..." He even did this once at a drive-thru. And my all time favorite, "I feel so happy!"
Of course he doesn't say all his letters right so here is how he really says them. "I'm all warm and tozy!" "Tan I have titen nudets." Oh and here's how he calls Boykin, "Tome here Boyden."

Summer Fun

We have been having a great time outside lately. Rex ran through the sprinklers the other day, then the next day we went to the water park and then today we went with our neighbors downtown to the Farmer's Market.
We had a great time sampling yummy food and enjoying the sun. We also let the kids play in the fountain and pond they have down there.

They had a blast and we did too! Now they are both sleeping soundly (as well as Mark). It is RARE when both boys sleep at the same time so I am thoroughly enjoying my free time!

Dr's appointments

Well we have definately met our deductible this year! We have had 3 hospital visits and everyone in our family has had some sort of illness. Rex has a EEG scheduled for next Thursday so that they can make sure he doesn't have a seizure disorder. His pediatrician doesn't feel confident that he had a febrial seizure since he didn't have a fever at the time of his seizure and also because he had two. So either we will never know why he had them and he will never have another one or else this is the beginning of a seizure disorder. I am obviously hoping for the first option! On his CT Scan it showed that he has sinusitis so we are trying to figure out how to prevent that so he doesn't get these little illnesses all the time.
Now Sam keeps getting ear infections and has been on two antibiotics at his young age. I hate to keep giving him antibiotics and they don't seem to be working so someone mentioned taking him to the chiropractor. I had heard of this before so I called a chiropractor in our ward and he had his first appointment on Friday. It was interesting to see how they work on babies. Sam enjoyed most of it but he tugged on his ears to try and help the fluid drain and Sam DID NOT enjoy that, he screamed and looked very angry at the Dr. We are going to take him twice a week for 3 weeks and see if that helps. Mark was very skeptical but I told him if he was up with him all night, he could make the decisions. Until then I will try anything I can to help him get comfortable and to sleep better.

Oh what a week and what is the deal with 2007?

Wow what a week! Monday, Rex had a slight fever so we just hung around. It never got over 100.4 so I didn't really worry about it. So Tuesday he woke up just fine, no fever so we decided to go to swimming lessons. He was having a rough day so I decided that we probably needed to relax another day. A few hours later my friend Stefanie called and said they were at the park and did we want to go. I asked Rex how he was feeling and he said he was good and happy and wanted to go play with Daeson so we went. We got there and he started playing in the water feature, acting totally normal and fine. We heard a fire truck and ambulance pull up and Rex started running over to the playground. I didn't want him over there because he didn't have shoes on and the ground was hot, plus I couldn't see him well over there. So I chased after him and when I got close to him he started crying and running toward me. I thought it was because his feet were hot so I grabbed him and held him. While I was holding him he started shaking and I looked down at him and his eyes were rolled back in his head and I realized he was having a seizure. Thank goodness the paramedics were there because I ran over to them and told them my son was seizing. The paramedic grabbed him and took him to the ambulance. He finally stopped seizing in the ambulance but he was really out of it. Stefanie took Sam and Rex and I rode in the ambulance to the hospital. Shortly after we got to the hospital, Rex had another seizure. It was SO scary, I hope no one ever has to see their kid do that, it is the worst thing to watch. After the first one they weren't super concerned because of his fever the day before, they figured it was a febrial seizure which is quite common in kids with fevers. But after the second one, they were more concerned and so they did a ton of tests including a CT scan, x-rays, and a lumbar puncture. They decided he needed to be transferred downtown to the pediatric unit at the other hospital. So we stayed the night there with him being monitored closely to make sure he didn't have another one. Imagine trying to keep an active 2 year old in a hospital bed, hooked to an IV, not fun. He was freaked out and didn't want to be there and so he cried from about 10:00 p.m. to 1:40 a.m when he FINALLY fell asleep. It is heartbreaking to see your child having such a hard time and not being able to do anything about it. Well the next day the doc said we could go home. He thinks it was a febrial seizure and the second one was just part of the same episode as the first one. All his tests were normal so although they don't know the exact reason for it, they think it was just the changes in temp in his body between the fever and the 100 degree temps outside. We are just SO happy he is ok and feel really blessed and humbled. I now see him with a whole new appreciation and realize that life is so precious so I better enjoy every minute with him. He has been so sweet since he got home and we are enjoying every minute of it. Our neighborhood was amazing! We got so many phone calls of support and two dinners brought to us so we didn't have to worry about that. Our next door neighbors were at the hospital within an hour and Mark helped my Mark give Rex a blessing and Tami held Sam and kept him occupied so we could focus on Rex. My mom came and took care of Sam so we didn't have to worry about him. We are sad because we were supposed to go to Santa Barbara today so Mark could go spear fishing with his brothers and I could go shopping for my B-day. And oh yea so that everyone could meet Sam! But obviously it wouldn't be smart for us to go so we will have to go another time. At least Rex is ok and that is all that matters! We sure love him. Here is his first night home, in our room (because we are paranoid) and with his new dog that the neighbors got him when he was in the hospital. SO PRECIOUS!

I guess we are just going to have to call 2007 the year of the hospital. First Mark broke his hand, then we had Sam, then Mark had an appendicitis, and now this! We have definately met our deductible!
Last week we had fun though! We went to Grandma's house to visit with Jessica and Jack who came up. It was so fun and we enjoyed watching the cousins get to know each other. Here are the pictures.

Swimming lessons

Rex started swimming lessons this week. It is SO funny to watch because he has NO attention span! So it is him and 2 other little girls and half of the time Rex is wandering off. Well hopefully by the end of 2 weeks he will have learned something. One can only hope!

And here's what Sam did, looked cute as always.

Oh how my garden grows!

Look at my garden! It has gone nuts! here is a before and after picture. And it has only been a month and a half! We already ate our radishes, are eating our lettuce, and I tasted one of our peas that is almost ready, SOOO good!! I love having a garden!

4th of July

We had a really fun 4th of July! It started with breakfast with the neighbors and then a trip to the mall. Here is a pic of our neighbors, we love them!

Mark and Pete went and saw Transformers and LOVED it! Then I took a much needed nap. We put Rex to bed because he was ownery and tired, with promises that we would wake him up for fireworks. So just before 10 we woke him up and went outside and did fireworks with the neighbors. It took him awhile to fully wake up but he LOVED the fireworks, it was cute. Here is a cute pic of Rex, Ethan, and ViBecca.
Then we walked down the street and joined about 50 other neighbors for a massive neighborhood firework party! It was SO fun and I have never seen so many fireworks in my life! All around us people had the big huge ones that go up in the air, it was neat. I felt really patriotic with all the celebrating. Sam wasn't too fond of the noise, thus the covering of the ears. Anyway we had a great time!

Reunion and Appendicitis

Wow what a CRAZY week! Mark called me last Tuesday to let me know he was going to the ER because he thought he needed his appendix out. Now I have to admit, I thought he was overreacting and that he was unnecessarily going to the ER but I bit my tongue. Well I felt like a COMPLETE jerk an hour or two later when he let me know that he needed to get his appendix out that day! So he was in the hospital for a day and a half, poor guy! Rex really missed his daddy and was constantly asking where he was. We were planning on going to IF this last weekend for my 10 year class reunion but obviously with the circumstances I figured either we wouldn't go or I would go by myself. Well Mark decided he didn't want me to have to go by myself and he knew Rachel would be sad if we didn't go so he grinned and bore it.

He rested a lot and left the night activity early but he survived. He is doing much better, he's just still tired and his body is sore.

We had a good time in IF. Rex and Sam were babysat by Emily at Leisle's house and Rex had a ball! He didn't want to go back to the hotel. When I came to pick him up he shut the playroom door in my face! RUDE! I endured 37 hours of labor for that kid! Anyway, he is still talking about Ava, Bailey, Brooklyn, and Bowen. Riley was there also but she crashed before the party was over so I think he forgot! He and Brooklyn get along well though, they even took a ride in her Escalade! :)
