I painted one of my dining table chairs yesterday and I think it turned out pretty good. Here is a before and after.

Now here is the part that I need help with. I am going to recover the seats because they are gross black vinyl. I picked up this sample of fabric I like. What do you think? Does it look too formal for a family table? Do you like the fabric? 
I am trying to somewhat match the colors in my family room because they are connected and I am going to paint their shared wall a similar color as the orange pillows, here are the colors.

the painted chairs look GREAT and i love that fabric. as far as being too formal, i have NO idea when it comes to stuff like that. are you gonna cover them with plastic or something so they don't get ruined? or maybe your kids aren't as messy as mine...
I really like that fabric, but let me tell you from experience, fabric on dinning chairs with kids... not a good combo. So make sure the fabric is durable and can be cleaned. Or maybe like the above comment your kids are cleaner than mine. The black looks snappy against that fabric. Update what you decide!

Just have to add, no my kids are NOT clean! You should see what I am digging out of the crevices of these chairs!! I just figured I would scotch card the heck out of them and then in a couple of years replace them when I want to redecorate! Fabric isn't that expensive!
I totally like the color super cute. I also wonder about the mess if You could buy some of that heavy duty clear plastic and place over the fabric (maybe staple the plastic underneath the chair, I know it reminds me of my grandma, but it wouldn't be permanent and then you could protect the fabric? I don't know? But I like the color and the chairs turned out cute I am seriously wanting to repaint my stools what did you use spray or a brush?
